General
For beginners, we recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week to allow your body to adapt to the demands of training. As your fitness improves, you can gradually increase the number of classes or add more specific training sessions. It’s important to find a balance that allows for progress without overtraining.
It’s completely normal to feel nervous or anxious when starting something new, especially a sport as challenging as MMA. Remember that everyone was a beginner once, and our coaches and members are here to support you every step of the way. Take things at your own pace, and don’t hesitate to ask questions or for help when needed.
Once you have the basics down in striking and grappling/BJJ, a coach may invite you into Fighters/Comp Class. It is built for competition-level work, but you do not have to fight to be in it. You can use the class to sharpen your skills, improve your pace, and train with more intent. Sessions include running, hand wrapping for strikers, conditioning, bag work, partner drills, sparring, and grappling drills.
If you have a desire to compete, our coaches can guide you through the process of preparing for a fight. It involves intensive training and conditioning, as well as a commitment to mastering both striking and grappling. Once you’re ready, we’ll support you every step of the way, including finding the right matches and events.
To avoid injuries, focus on proper technique, warm up before class, and cool down after each session. Don’t try to go too hard too fast, especially in sparring or live grappling. Communicate with your training partners about intensity levels, and always listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, let a coach know immediately.
No prior experience is required to start training at Unite MMA. Our beginner-friendly classes will teach you the fundamental techniques in striking, grappling, and BJJ.
